Double the Celebration: A Train & Golf-Themed Lemon Cake for Frederick and Michael

At Cakes by Debbie, every cake is a chance to celebrate life’s sweetest moments — and this recent creation was a truly heart-warming one. Debbie was asked to design a cake that honoured two generations: little Frederick’s 1st birthday and his Grandad Michael’s 80th. The result? A beautifully crafted lemon sponge cake that brought together two passions in one delicious design.

A Cake That Tells a Story

Frederick, who’s just discovering the world, has already developed a love for trains — so Debbie made sure to include a charming train motif, complete with colourful carriages  across the cake. It was playful, bright, and perfect for a first birthday celebration.

On the other side of the cake, Debbie paid tribute to Michael’s favourite pastime: golf. A miniature golf course scene was created with edible details — from a putting green and tiny golf balls — all made with precision and care.

The cake itself was a zesty lemon sponge, chosen for its fresh, light flavour that everyone could enjoy. It was layered with lemon buttercream and decorated to perfection, combining fun and elegance in one show-stopping centrepiece.
